Has the price of beef got you down? Have no fear! Marinades are great way of making inexpensive cuts taste great! Here are some excellent value cuts of steak that can be transformed into tender, delicious dishes with the right marinades and cooking techniques:

1. Skirt Steak
• Well-marbled and full of flavor.
• How to Tenderize: Marinate with Black Nugget (as directed on package) or your acidic ingredients (lime juice, vinegar, etc.) to break down fibers. Cook quickly over high heat and slice thinly against the grain.

2. Flank Steak
• Lean but packed with flavor.
• How to Tenderize: Use a marinade with acidic elements or Con Yeager’s Black Nugget (as directed on package) and cook to medium-rare. Always slice thinly against the grain for best texture.

3. Top Round (London Broil)
• Economical and adaptable to marination.
• How to Tenderize: Marinate for several hours or overnight, using our Black Nugget marinade (as directed on package) or your favorite acidic marinade. Broil or grill quickly and slice thinly.

4. Hanger Steak
• Known for rich flavor.
• How to Tenderize: Marinate for a few hours and cook quickly over high heat to medium-rare. It can get tough if overcooked! Use one of Con Yeager’s excellent marinades, such as Black Nugget, and use as directed on package.

5. Chuck Steak
• Good marbling adds flavor.
• How to Tenderize: Ideal for slow-cooking or braising in a flavorful liquid. Can also be marinated and grilled if sliced thin. Use one of Con Yeager’s excellent marinades, such as Black Nugget, and use as directed on package.

6. Flat Iron Steak
• Naturally tender when cooked properly.
• How to Tenderize: Marinate to add flavor and cook to medium-rare. Use one of Con Yeager’s excellent marinades, such as Black Nugget, and use as directed on package.

7. Tri-Tip
• Affordable and can be very tender when cooked right.
• How to Tenderize: Marinate to add moisture and flavor. Cook whole on a grill or in the oven to medium-rare and slice against the grain. Use one of Con Yeager’s excellent marinades, such as Black Nugget, and use as directed on package.

shipping over charge not fair at all !!

Posted by scott on 1st Feb 2015

The marinade is great. What I don't like is how they charge for shipping I had recently purchased two items. Both were shipped in the same size box two days apart
One item was around $5 around $4.50 shipping
Other item in the same size box maybe a little heavier but not enough to affect the price as I know since I ship a lot of stuff anyway
Same size box. $8 dollars for the marinade $8.75
Shipping I was just a tad bit angry when I saw the charge for shipping. I was going to call and complain. But for what to listen to someone say
Sorry that's the way we do things. Grrrrrtttt

No Need to Pay High Dollar for Shish-ka-bobs Again!

Posted by Cindi on 4th Aug 2014

We marinated our ball steak with this and made our own shish-ka-bobs instead of paying high dollar at Giant Eagle who don't always have the black nugget anymore. And it was so good... plus I could add all sorts of veggies on the stick!

    Good stuff!

This is the best beef marinade ever! I just wish that the package mentioned how many pounds of meat it seasons -- I had to return to the site to find out, since I couldn't remember.

And here's a handy tip for any & all marinades, if you can't use an entire package at one meal: divide the powder by weight, using a kitchen scale lined with a coffee filter, then reseal the package and freeze. For example, one pack of Black Nugget seasons 4 lbs. of meat, and it weighs about 5.3 ounces and requires one cup of water. So for a pound of meat use 1/4 of the package (about 1-1/4 ounces). Spoon it onto the scale, pour it into a measuring cup or small bowl, mix in 1/4 cup of water, and add it to the meat as directed. Simple!

To M. Baumhauer: my local Giant Eagle no longer makes their own kabobs, since it's so labor-intensive. Marinated meats are now delivered with the regular meats and neither Black Nugget nor Burgundy Wine (another Con Yeager gem) are used by whoever sends them. I'm sure that all the folks who work behind the counter at the GE stores are meatcutters and belong to the union, but I'd be surprised if the marinators and skewerers who now prepare these items fall into that category.

The BEST steaks you'll ever have..

Posted by M. Baumhauer on 18th Apr 2014

My wife and I have eaten this marinade for years with our steaks. I have literally turned 3 non-steak lovers into believers with this marinade. Our local Giant Eagle grocery store in Ohio sadly no longer uses this product for some odd reason. I however was lucky enough to have the butcher tell me where I could find it online, and now I'm sharing it with everyone!! You have a customer for life...

Tried this marinade after being recomended by friends. It is fantastic!! Used it with a couple NY strips on grill. Great Flavor! Can't wait to use it to make some jerky in the smoker. I think it will be great for that as well.

    Highly recommend.

Posted by Lori on 13th Jan 2013

I tried Black Nugget Marinade this summer at a neighbor's cookout, and thought it was delicious. I asked the company name and ordered it online. We marinaded steaks and will try it with chicken next. Great price for the product, fair shipping price too.
    Thanks!
